Mango Ripening

The mango is one of the most popular fruits in the world, and ripening them is not very different than the process for bananas, avocados, and other fruit ...>>

Our Tarp Ripening Kit

We offer a "Knock-Down" (KD) ripening kit, to simplify and economize on shipping and handling costs.  Our basic unit can ripen/pre-cool up to 20 pallets or tons.

The KD Ripening Kit includes:

  • Cam-locking insulated panel cool room (walk-in cooler), which creates the air plenum for the tarp ripening system, and into the face of which are mounted the two pressure fans and the cooling coil. A hinged access door is provided for cleaning and maintenance.
  • Large surface area cooling coil block, 4 fins per inch, suitable for R22 or 404a (other refrigerants available on request.) Capacity of 86,956 btu/hour (25.48 kw.) 8’ wide x 4’ tall. (2438 mm x 1219 mm.)
  • Two premium-efficiency suction fan assemblies, with Baldor Super-E motors. 20,000 cfm total (33,980 cmh.)
  • We do not include, the tarp and foam buffers, they can be purchased locally.

Options include:

  • Insulated floor panels;
  • Variable Frequency Drive (vfd) for fan speed control;
  • Ethylene generator and gassing liquid;
  • Thermostat and programmable controllers;
  • Sensors for ethylene, carbon dioxide, and relative humidity;
  • Ultrasonic humidifiers;
  • Compressor/condensing unit; and
  • Additional insulated panels to make a complete ripening room enclosure   (door to be sourced locally.)

Key to making this design work properly, is balance between the cooling coil airflow and the suction fan airflow. Otherwise, fruit closest to the fans has the most and coldest air, and fruit further away has the least and warmest air.

The tarp also must be wide enough to cover most of the top of the pallets, and the center suction tunnel has certain design requirements, too.
